With MSG Varsity's announcement of their All Hudson Valley Team as well as the Journal News releasing their Westchester/Putnam All-Stars and Rockland All-County Team, we now have all of the 2013-14 post-season award winners. Congratulations to the Scarsdale Raiders on their most successful season in team history, going 21-4 and making their first ever trip to the final four in Utica.



Congratulations to the two members of our local high school hockey community who were inducted into the NYS High School Hockey Hall of Fame on Sunday 3/9/14 in Utica. Suffern's all-time leading scorer Jon Foster and Monroe-Woodbury's long-time head coach Paul Bacsardi will now join other locals Mike Sparago and John Orlando of Suffern, Ken Warger of Clarkstown North, John Zegras of Rye and the 1991-92 state champion Suffern Mounties in the Hall of Fame



Congratulations to our league champions. John Jay Cross River in League 1A, Hendrick Hudson & Pawling (co-champs) in League 1B, Pelham in League 2, Ryetown/Harrison in League 3, and Suffern in League 4.

Congratulations to North Rockland's Tim Hekker, who was named the Journal News Scholar-Athlete of the Week for January 31st. You can read about this great accomplishment by clicking here.



Congratulations to Brian DelSavio who, after six years as the assistant coach, takes over as the head coach at Pearl River this season. He is replacing long-time head coach Tony Capone, who will stay on with the team as an assistant coach. Good luck to Brian and the rest of the Pirates on the upcoming season.



Long-time New Rochelle head coach Jim Tozzo has announced his retirement after 34 years at the helm of the Huguenots. He is leaving as the seventh all-time winningest coach in New York State high school hockey history, and will be missed by the New Rochelle program as well as the entire section. Taking over for Jim behind the bench at New Rochelle will be his son, CJ, who has served as his assistant coach for the past two seasons. CJ was a standout player for the Huguenots during his high school days and is the all-time New York State career leader in assists as well as second place all-time in total points. Section1hockey.com would like to wish Jim the best in all of his future endeavours and congratulate CJ on his new role with the team.



Section1hockey.com would like to welcome John Veteri to the league. John will be taking over as the head coach of Somers/North Salem for the 2013-14 season. Good luck to John and the rest of the Sabers' team, coaching staff, and fans on their quest to repeat the banner season they experienced in 2012-13.



Section1hockey.com would like to congratulate Scott Miele, who will take over as the head coach at Fox Lane for the 2013-14 season. Best of luck to the Foxes, and to Scott in his first year in the league.



Section1hockey.com would like to congratulate Pete Thomas on his new position as the head coach of the Ryetown/Harrison Titans. Pete was a standout player for the Rye Garnets in high school and has been their long-time assistant coach before heading to their cross-town rivals to serve as the head coach. Good luck to Pete in his new role.



Section1hockey.com would like to congratulate Mike Grean who will take over as head coach of the Hendrick Hudson Sailors this season. Mike steps into this role after serving as the Sailors' assistant coach since their inaugural season in 2011-12.



Section1hockey.com would like to congratulate Matt Whitehurst who will become the head coach of the Pawling Tigers for the 2013-14 season, replacing long-time coach Bob Ried, who has retired. Matt comes to Pawling after a successful stint as the assistant coach at Mahopac.



Congratulations to Steven Santini of Mahopac and Brett Pesce of Tarrytown who were both selected in the NHL draft on 6/30/13. Santini, who played for JFK/Putnam Valley before leaving to play for the NTDP after his sophomore year, was selected in the second round (42nd overall) by the New Jersey Devils. Pesce, who played for Sleepy Hollow/Irvington was selected in the third round (66th overall) by the Carolina Hurricaines. Best of luck to both young men on their future in the professional ranks. All coaches are encouraged to join the New York State High School Hockey Coaches Association. The cost is $35 per team, which will cover the head coach & the assistant coaches. Among other things, this will give you the ability to nominate players for the All-State team as well as giving you a vote at the All-State selection meeting during the final four weekend in Utica.
