Congratulations to the Suffern Mounties on winning the 2012 NYS Division 1 championship with a 3-2 victory over Section 5 champion Pittsford. Congratulations are also in order for Suffern Goalie Tyler Stark, Defenseman Anthony Carudo, and Forwards Steve Scholer and Willie Sanchez for being named to the all-tournament team and to Scholer for also being named tournament MVP. | Congratulations to long-time Clarkstown North head coach Ken Warger, who was inducted into the New York State High School Hockey Hall of Fame on Saturday 3/10/12. He joins former Suffern head coach John Orlando, former Rye head coach John Zegras, former Suffern player Mike Sparago, and the 1992 Suffern Mounties as the only representatives from Section 1/9 in the hall of fame. | Section1hockey.com would like to welcome two new head coaches to the WRPDIIHL. Chris Lombardo will be taking over as the head coach at Mahopac after a long stint as an assistant coach at JFK/Putnam Valley. Also joining the league is Steve Grilli, who will be heading up the Hendrick Hudson Sailors in their inaugural season. Congratulations to both coaches on their new positions, and best of luck. |
| In conjunction with the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, ESPN ran a story about Welles Crowther, who was working in the South Tower of the World Trade Center on the morning of the attack and gave his life to help get others working in the building to safety. For those who did not know, Welles is an alum of Section 1 having played both ice hockey and lacrosse for Nyack High School in the late 90's. An annual charity event known as the "Red Bandanna Skate" is held in his honor every spring at Sport-O-Rama. To view the ESPN story, please click here. |
| Section1Hockey.com would like to welcome the newest member to the WRPDIIHL. Hendrick Hudson High School has added a varsity hockey program for the 2011-12 season and they will be a Division 2 team playing in Conference I. Congratulations to all those involved in helping to get this program started and good luck to all of the student-atheletes who will be participating in the inaugural season for the Sailors. |

| All coaches are encouraged to join the New York State High School Hockey Coaches Association. The cost is $35 per team, which will cover the head coach & the assistant coaches. Among other things, this will give you the ability to nominate players for the All-State team as well as giving you a vote at the All-State selection meeting during the final four weekend in Utica.
